EXCO EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES OF LIGHTNING VICTIMS

The Executive Council (Exco) of the Province of the Eastern Cape has noted with shock the untimely death of Mr. Temba Luxomo a stalwart
of the liberation struggle and a former Chief Director in the Office of the Premier. The Exco was informed in its bi-weekly meeting in
Bisho of the sad news.

Speaking on behalf of the Exco Eastern Capes Director General Dr Mvuyo Tom said the Province and the Country had lost one of the
development pioneers. He described Mr. Luxomo as the founder of the RDP Branch of the Office of the Premier which was later translated into
a Policy Research and Development Planning Chief Directorate. Under his leadership, the Branch assisted in promoting community development
initiatives in the Eastern Cape through prototype projects that were funded from the Premiers Discretionary Fund.

Dr Tom said before joining the government Mr Luxomo worked for the African National Congress (ANC) in exile where he made his mark. Mr
Luxomo took early retirement in February last year due to ill health.

On behalf of the Executive Council, Dr Tom expressed deep condolences to the Luxomo family. He passed away on Tuesday last week and will be
buried at Ilinge near Queenstwon on Saturday, 5 May 2000.
